Fifty Years in Palestine
Frances Emily Newton
Autobiography of Frances Emily Newton
Frances E Newton (4 November 1871 – 11 June 1955) was an English missionary who lived and worked in Palestine from 1889 until 1938, the last 18 years of which saw the country under British rule.
In her book she chronicles her time in Palestine. She moved there as young missionary to later become a local business woman and philanthropist in Haifa as well as an advocate of the Arab cause during the British Mandate.
She was a staunch anti-Zionist and was rumored to be anti-Semitic as well. Some sources claim she was close to the British Nazi part after her return from Palestine.
